The recipe instructions are usually very easy to follow, though some were of course more challenging than others. And every so often the instructions were a bit vague.

I did notice the timing was a bit off on some of the recipes as well. Sometimes the ingredients list does require some additional cooking that is not actually written as instructions i. This could mean your cooking time is extended beyond what it looks like at first glance. The recipes are true to the show, though not all are specifically referenced or shown as part of the series. All in all, I was pleased with this cookbook! It was really easy to follow along with the recipe instructions, and though a few of them failed, most recipes were very tasty!

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Sift the flour, sugar, and salt into a large bowl. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Add the milk and blend it in with a fork until the dough clears the sides of the bowl. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead gently two or three times. Roll out the dough to a -inch thickness. Using a 2 -inch round biscuit cutter, cut out six biscuits.
Gather up the scraps, roll them out, and cut out two more biscuits. Set the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Bake the biscuits until golden, 10 to 12 minutes. Brush the tops of the baked biscuits with melted butter if you wish. Leave the biscuits on the baking sheet in a warm place while you make the gravy.

Make the gravy: Cook the sausage in a large, heavy skillet, preferably cast iron, over medium-high heat. When cooked through, transfer to paper towels to drain. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of the fat in the skillet. Put the skillet on medium-low heat.
Whisk the flour into the fat and cook for 5 minutes, whisking constantly. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the milk, a little at a time. Return the pan to the heat, raise the heat to medium-high, and cook, stirring occasionally and scraping the browned bits in the skillet, until the gravy comes to simmer and thickens.
